Small, oblong book. 216 pp. A collection of songs, many secular, for use in the instruction of singing or for singing at schools. With a section teaching the art of singing. Songs include those related to sailing, fishing and maritime topics; those related to cities such as Wilmot, Nuremburg and others; songs of the seasons; a harvest song; songs on farming, etc. Artemas Nixon Johnson was a 19th century American musician from the New England/Boston area, being very active in the American Musical Convention, as well as a former student and contemporary of Lowell Mason (see Stopp, Johnson Versus Mason). GOOD condition. Several tiny insect holes along the front hinge. General fading, with some soiling and staining. Extremities rather scuffed and bumped. Leather chipped, with minor loss, at the head and tail of the spine. Interior clean and solid. Some offsetting to the endpapers. Good .
