A single issue of this 19th century literary magazine, featuring fiction and poetry, including work by Rebecca Harding Davis. Also of note is a lengthy article 'Opium and its Victims,' by Alonzo Calkins, discussing the use of opium and its effects on its users, both positive and negative, as well as mentioning the amount of opium then being imported and used in the United States. FAIR/GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy browning to the wraps, with heavy browning along the spine. Light dampstaining present along the hinges, with darker dampstaining along the lower edge. Mostly minor soiling, a bit heavier to the rear cover, with rather heavy soiling along the top edge. Moderate to heavy chipping along the extremities, especially the fore edge, with some loss. A 3 inch tear present along the lower hinge. Scattered minor soiling in the interior. Heavy offsetting to pages 28/29 from paper having been laid in. Fair .
