Printed by the De Vinne Press. xv, 107 pp. An English language translation of two folk tales of Napoleon, one from Russian sources (Napoleonder) and the other from the French, by Honore de Balzac. The Russian tale, appearing in print in 1901 (according to the introduction) imagines God and angels plotting ways to punish the wicked peoples of Earth, with Satan advocating the use of Napoleon to war on the people. In this tale, Napoleon originated as a doll made by Satan, inadvertently brought to life by God. The other tale is drawn from Honore de Balzac's work, 'Country Doctor.' GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy fading and browning along the extremities. Light soiling and scuffing. Dampstain present along the lower book extremity. Interior clean and solid with a light dampstain in the lower gutter of the first few pages. Good/No Jacket.
