Title: In and out of Rebel Prisons
Description: Oswego, NY, R.J. Oliphant, Printer, 1888. Cloth. Brown cloth with ruling in black. 335 pp including index. With several illustrations, all present as called for. A member of the 12th New York Cavalry, Lieutenant Cooper chronicles both the battle near Plymouth, North Carolina that led to his future imprisonment, as well as his time in Confederate prisoner of war camps. Cooper prefaces the account by stating that as an officer, he was not subjected to the harsh treatment and living conditions that most of the prisoners were, but also clarifies that he believes the conditions in the camps were deliberately poor.
