Bates was a noted historian and educator, author of the key work 'History of the Pennsylvania Volunteers 1861-1865.' GOOD condition. Minor uneven fading and rubbing to the covers. Text block solid but toned. A few stray pencil marks on the fore edge, with a stray mark to the Jackson illustration. Faint dampstain on the first page of the preface. Maps cropped close along the fore edge but complete. Good/No Jacket.
