A newspaper featuring a lengthy article on the Arcade Railroad which was to be built to alleviate congestion in the streets, as overcrowding, the elevated railways, and horse carriages was overwhelming the city. The railway was never built, failing due to lack of support from Boss Tweed and others (History Engine, online source). Also of note is a lengthy column chronicling various baseball teams and games, including the mention of clubs such as the Union, the Mutuals and others. The players for these teams are listed, while also mentioning baseball teams active in Hoboken, New York, New Jersey, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Boston, etc. The article chronicles the rise in popularity of baseball, while giving a general overview of the season. Other items of news are included from around the country, including coverage of President Andrew Johnson's impeachment trial. In GOOD condition with some tearing, creasing and tattering along the extremities. Minor creasing, with one horizontal fold crease present. Newspaper starting to split along the left fold edge.
