Title: The Dolphin: A Periodical for All People Who Find Pleasure in Fine Books (Number 4, Part 3 -- Spring 1941)
Description: New York, The Limited Editions Club, 1940. Hardcover. 4to. Green cloth with dark green lettering and decoration. Pp. 234-312, 14pp. Numerous line drawings and illustrations. Near fine. A volume in the LECs "Special Publications" category, not one of its annual series of 12 subscription titles -- third part (only) of this 3-part fourth volume. Notable contributors include Ward Ritchie, Warren Chappell, Holbrook Jackson, Joseph Blumenthal and Philip Van Doren Stern -- of which this copy includes a choice autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is a unsigned Autograph Note from Stern, 1p, 5" X 3" card, n.d. Fine. Interesting if cryptic note handsomely penned in his usual vibrant blue ink, at the bottom of which appear his inkstamped name and home address in Brooklyn. "I enclose a check for "23," he writes. "Please send me back your letter so I can keep it as a record. I enclose a stamped envelope for this. Thank you." Stern (1900-84) was a popular and prolific author, editor, Lincoln and Civil War historian who penned the short story "The Greatest Gift" upon which the film "It's a Wonderful Life" is based. He contributes the delightful humorous essay "How to Look at a Book" to this issue. NEWMAN A-11. .
