Birney makes a guest appearance in season four as Lieutenant Stans, a Gilead officer who interrogates main character June Osborne. Tipped in facing the half-title page is a fine matching card signed boldly at center in black ballpoint by DAVID DUKES (1945-2000), who dates it 10 December 1979 at upper right. Dukes plays a doctor in the film version. Laid in are the ideal bookmarks: Birney and Dukes' original transmittal envelopes. .
