He inscribes and signs the front flyleaf large and bold in black fineline: "To my good friend / Bob Malott / With admiration and / affection / Lewis Cotlow / July 31, 1968." Cotlow (1898-1987) was a New York insurance broker who gained a following as amateur explorer and writer who made documentary films of many of his expeditions. Robert Malott (1926-2018) was a noted Chicago business leader, CEO of FMC Corporation, Republican politico and philanthropist. .
