Mild jacket edgewear and large non-archivally mended tear. Tight and handsome first edition of this (to cite jacket front panel) "Independent Explorer's Life with the Last of the Exotic Peoples of Africa, the Arctic, New Guinea and the Upper Amazon." He inscribes and signs the front flyleaf large and bold in black fineline: "To my good friend / Bob Malott / With admiration and / affection / Lewis Cotlow / July 31, 1968." Cotlow (1898-1987) was a New York insurance broker who gained a following as amateur explorer and writer who made documentary films of many of his expeditions. Robert Malott (1926-2018) was a noted Chicago business leader, CEO of FMC Corporation, Republican politico and philanthropist. .
