Binding a tad rough, though leather is strong and gilting decent; endpapers (only) a bit age toned and faintly foxed, though otherwise internally tight, bright and near fine; small inkstamped monastery name/address on both pastedowns and title page verso and contemporary notation of same ("Monastery of the Visitation of Holy Mary of St. Louis") on front flyleaf. Tight and attractive second edition of this life of the French saint (1572-1641) whose spiritual mentor was fellow saint Francis de Sales and who founded the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary -- in one of whose convents this copy resided for about 175 years. .
