Clark Kenyon provides the introduction to this facsimile reprint of The Neale Publishing Company's 1911 first edition, which Frank Byrne critiques as "The rewritten version of an earlier account; much mellowed toward captors" -- this "earlier account" being his 1868 "What I Saw in Dixie; or, Sixteen Months in Rebel Prisons," which Byrne describes as "A reworked Diary of 1863-1865 confinements at Libby, Macon, Charleston, and Columbia; bitterly anti-Confederate."
