Author: BARTON, William E. Title: The Lincoln of the Biographers
Description: Springfield, Illinois State Historical Library, 1929. Hardcover. 8vo. Half dark green calf and green cloth with black cloth tape to spine (only). Pp. 57-116, pp. 685-686. Illustration. Very good. Spine mend modern, else tight, clean and attractive. Article from the Publication No. 365, the 1929 "Transactions of the Illinois State Historical Library," which noted Lincoln scholar Thomas Irwin Starr (1903-65), who edited the 1941 "Lincoln's Kalamazoo Address Against Extending Slavery" and other titles, had custom bound for his well-known collection with a typed title page. After Barton's article, Starr also had bound in a single leaf from the January 1931 "Journal of the Illinois State Historical Society" (Volume XXIII, Number 4) -- Paul M. Angle's obituary and tribute to Barton, who had died on 7 December 1930. The front pastedown of the pale green patterned endpapers bears Starr's gold foil bookplate. Most unusual!.
