Arnold F. Gates (1914-93) was a noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar and long-time officer with the New York Civil War Round Table; likely he had arranged for his friend Callahan to address that distinguished group. Callahan (1908-2004) was a famed journalist and historian and this his penultimate book. .
