Edgeworn and rough, with slight chipping at head and tail of spine, which is rather sunned (though gilt lettering fully legible); inner hinges delicate though expertly, archivally strengthened. Internally a strong "Very good." Later printing, a decent and handleable copy of this popular account that Nevins' bibliographer John T. Hubbell critiqued as a "Superficial description of Washington and its people during the Civil War era." NEVINS II,119. .
