Title: Rosa, the Little Cousin from India
Description: N.p. N.p. 1870. Paperback. 24mo. Tan decorative wrappers. 32pp. Several small steel engravings. Good plus. Delicate, with mild edgewear and a tad dusty. Touching full-page non-authorial gift inscription on verso of title page dated 15 September 1891 tells how "This book.. you must keep in memory of your cousin Annie; when she was about four years old it was given to her, take good care of it, as she was the only child of your loving Aunt Mattie." Patronizing tale about a 6-year-old Indian girl brought to England, meant to show how even those from the most distant colonies can become obediant Brits and god-fearing Christians. "Poor heathen people of India!" it concludes. "We should be sorry for them, and pray that God would send out his light and his truth to lead them to Jesus.." Unusual. .
