Choumara was a prolific writer who made many important contributions to the study of fortifications, especially those of Paris. His ideas and the principles of his works were of influence on many fortification architects and authors of specialized works. He became Officer of the Legion of Honour and retired in 1845 at the rank of Colonel. D-3 .
