Title: Federal Gazette & Baltimore Daily Advertiser Volume 4, Nulmber 747 (March 28, 1796)
Description: Baltimore, 1796, First Edition. Disbound , Very Good, Complete four-page newspaper in very good condition (moderate wear to edges, typical fading); all words are quite readable, one tiny hole (looks to be made by a stray tobacco ash) to front which doesn’t interfere with readability. A variety of advertisements: beef, clover seed, land on the Potomac and the Eastern Shore among other places close to Baltimore, lamp and tanners’ oil, household furniture, a new dentist, Dr. Beziers, places of business, etc. Also, notices related to the sale of ships or parts of ships (the New Schooner), the cargo of newly arrived ships, ships setting sail (the Sloop Sisters for New York, the Schooner Paragon for Alexandria, Norfolk, Richmond, etc.). A lengthy "Port of Baltimore" column lists names of ships and where they have recently arrived or failed to arrive. Also, "for sale" notices related to the enslaved: "For the term of Seven Years,/A stout, able NEGRO MAN, about 24 year of age". Likewise, a NEGRO GIRLS, about 17 years old. Another reads: "A likely NEGRO MAN, who is a complet Waiter and understands all kinds of House Work." World news includes the warfare between France and England and prints one lengthy quote from Prime Minister Pitt’s petition to King George encouraging him to negotiate with France for a peaceful settlement of the war. News from the House of Representatives about the request for the establishment of new districts and ports of entry, listing those in favor (who won) and those against.
