From 1830-1834 Joseph Franz von Allioli (1793-1873) published his known German translation of the Vulgate with his commentary from the Greek and Hebrew sources added: Übersetzung der heiligen Schriften Alten und Neuen Testaments, aus der Vulgata, mit Bezug auf den Grundtext, neu übersetzt und mit kurzen Anmerkungen erläutert. The work received papal approval. Allioli studied Oriental languages at Vienna, Rome, and Paris (1818-20) and became professor in the University at Landshut for a short while only in 1824. The work we offer is an alphabetical index with entries in German to the translation by Allioli, compiled by Beitelrock on intitiative of and supervision by Alioli himself. It lists not only names of persons, countries, cities, animals with references to the biblicial passages where they occur etc., but also the meaning, when considered necessary, of archeological, dogmatical or moral concepts.
