Title: Two Manuscript Receipted Invoices for work done John Hill drawn to Thomas Caddick, Mr Padison and others for the Free School.
Description: 1793 and 1794. 2 manuscript accounts for minor building work at the free school, 205 x 205 mm. and 230 x 185 mm. The school is almost certainly Old Swinford Hospital, a school founded in the 17th Century and one of the few state funded boarding schools in operation today [tuition is paid for by the local authority and pupils only pay boarding fees]. The accounts lists a combination of materials and labour costs> the second [1794] in particular gives an interesting glance at labour costs. Edward Hill 6 days 15s. 0d. so 2s 6d. per day. John Hill 6 days 7s. 0d. [perhaps Edward's son] at 1s. 2d. per day. Other workmen charged at 2s., 1s. 8d. etc.
