Title: Cambridge Grand Horticultural Fête. Open to All England. Under the Immediate Patronage of His Royal Highness the Prince Albert, Chancellor of the University... At the Grand Horticultural Fête in the Grounds of Downing College, on Tuesday the 6th July, 1847.
Description: Cambridge: Henry Smith, 1847. Broadside 390 x 275 mm. printed in gold on embossed pale pink thick paper with a few marginal tears. Coinciding with the visit to Cambridge of the Queen and Prince Albert, who earlier in the year had been elected Chancellor to the University, this rare broadside lists 48 classes of flowers, fruit and vegetables as well as "Productions from the gardens of Industrious Cottagers." The event is recorded in Cooper's Annals of Cambridge Volume IV "In the afternoon Her Majesty and the Prince attended a Grand Horticultural Fete in the grounds of Downing College, at which above 6,000 persons were present."
