Description: Manchester: Printed for Messrs Thomas Agnew and Sons, by Thomas Brettell, 1855. Square 8vo. pp. 15, [1], order slip, 16 [opinions of the press]. Wear to the inner margins of title page and last page loose, lacks the wrapper which bore the title 'Crimean Pictures.' Roger Fenton, [1819 - 69] was one of the first war photographers and the exhibition of these photographs were the first war photographs to be exhibited in England. The printers, Thomas Agnew, were his sponsors for his trip to the Crimea and on his return a series of exhibitions was arranged, the first being at the gallery of the Water Colour Society and this exhibition shortly afterwards. Further exhibitions took place in 1856. Jisc lists the V&A as the only location [for the Water Colour Society exhibition], their copy comprising of the 15 page catalogue only> this copy also includes a 16 page supplement of 'Opinions of the Press' as well as the printed subscriber's form for ordering copies of the photographic prints.
