Title: The Star and the Crescent, Being the Story of the 17th Cavalry from 1858 to 1822. [with] Indian Silver Regimental Salt Shaker.
Description: Allahabad: Printed for Major F.C.C. Yeats-Brown by the Pioneer Press, [1922] 8vo. pp. xii, 358, [1], [addenda slip for the list of men who died in the Great War]> illustrations and maps. Original white pigskin backed cloth, a little worn. Number 95 [of 100? copies]. Together with an Indian silver sand shaker bearing the 17th Bengal Cavalry regimental crest. The regiment went through a variety of names and in 1861 became the 17th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry> it was disbanded in 1882, then reformed in 1885 as the 17th Regiment of Bengal Lancers. It appears that this crest and the form of the name would suggest that the sand shaker dates from between 1861 and 1885.
