Description: The Patent Fac-simile Lace and Embroidery Printing Co., c. 1885. Single sheet, 320 x 280 mm. old creases a little torn on the folds. A testimonial and example of the patent lace printing process on a pale orange paper. Robert Lanham invented a process whereby patterns for lace could be accurately reproduced using an embossed printing system on a coloured background. His invention, patented around 1884, used wax to form an impression of the original lace, which was subsequently used to make an electrotype plate.
