Hugh Robert Duff [1771 - 1832] of Muirtown joined the 35th Regiment, later exchanging into the 37th where he reached the rank of Major. He was a participant in the Flanders Campaign [1792-5] of the War of the First Coalition against the French Republican armies. Prefixed by a short biographical introduction, this is his first hand account of the campaign. Seemingly unpublished, the editor is unnamed.> the whereabouts of the original manuscript is VEGETARIANIS unknown, the additional notes make this a particularly useful and interesting primary source. "The perusal of this volume being intended for a very few friends, the constant egotism will be more easily excused, as the purpose is fully explained and need not be further defended."
