Title: The People's Tribute to the Right Honourable the Earl of Beaconsfield, K.G. A Gold Laurel Wreath.
Description: Hunt and Roskell, 1879. Card, 175 x 120 mm. printed both sides, mounted autotype photograph. The tribute was in the form of a gold laurel wreath interwoven with the rose, shamrock and thistle with 46 leaves on the back of which may be seen the names of the 80 towns in the United Kingdom who have sent or promised subscriptions. Using 22 carat gold the wreath weighed over 20 ounces and was manufactured by Hunt and Roskell of New Bond Street at a cost of £220. Proposed by Edward Tracy Turnerelli, who earned notoriety as the proposer of the project in recognition of Disraeli's services at the Berlin congress> but the earl declined to accept the gift, and the wreath was left on Turnerelli's hands. I have been unable to ascertain what subsequently became of it!
