Title: Forget Me Not>" a Birth Day Offering, on 17th May, 1830...by E.T.G.
Description: 1830. Bifolium, 250 x 195 mm. printed fist side only, embossed border. A 7 stanza poem in praise of Henry Paget [born 17th May 1768, died 1854] reflecting on his many martial achievements. As well as serving as a Member of Parliament for Carnarvon and Milborn Port, he served in the British Army taking part in the Flanders Campaign, commanded the cavalry for Sir John Moore's army in the Peninsular Campaign and at Waterloo he led the charge of the heavy cavalry against Comte d'Erlon's column at the Battle of Waterloo. At the end of the battle he lost part of one leg to a cannonball. He was married twice and scandalously eloped with Lady Charlotte Cadogan in 1810 whilst still married to Lady Caroline Villiers> this not referred to in the poem. Lady Caroline had been married to a nephew of the Duke of Wellington which caused friction between the two men when Paget was appointed as Wellington's 2nd in command at Waterloo.
