Description: Egham: C.C. Wetton, 1806? Bifolium, printed first two pages only, 255 x 200 mm. 2 copies available, both torn with no loss, one browned at £45. The British Library lists two variant imprints of this eulogy with no other locations. The identity of J.W. is unknown. Charles James Fox [1749 - 1806] was a prominent Whig statesman [arch rival to the Tory William Pitt the Younger] whose parliamentary career lasted from 1768 until his death. He was a corpulent and hairy man, an inveterate drinker, gambler and womaniser, who was also an anti-slavery campaigner and supporter of American patriots and the French Revolution as well as being an advocate of religious tolerance and individual liberty.
