Title: W.S. Cowell, Lithographers and Letterpress Printers.
Description: Ipswich: W.S. Cowell, 1916 - 47. 11 colour printed trade calendar cards, each 340 x 245 mm. or larger. 1916 retains the tear away daily calendar block. Covering the years 1916, 1926, 1928, 1929, 1931, 1933 [2 designes], 1936, 1937, 1938, and 1947. The earlier issues with illustrations after classic paintings> from 1929 with commissioned artwork, 1931 being particularly attractive but not attributed. The Ipswich commercial artist, Leonard Squirrel [1893 - 1979] designed the calendars for 1936 and 1938> Edward Neatby [1888 - 1949], another Suffolk artist, designed 1937. W.S. Cowell was founded in 1816 and remained an independent company until 1963 and the name was eventually dropped by the corporate owners in 1988.
