Title: Promenade Concerts (Preceded by Operetta). Programme.
Description: Charles Hengler, Wednesday August 10, 1881. 8 pages, 255 x 190 mm. torn and chipped. Originally from Glasgow, Charles Hengler acquired the site and opened Hengler's Grand Cirque in 1871. It was subsequently run by his sons, then taken over by Edward Wulff. For a brief period from 1895 it became the National Skating Palace [with real ice] before ten years later in 1905 another go at Circus was tried out in the building when it was renamed The Royal Italian Circus, managed by Horace Livermore and a Signor Volpi who was also the animal trainer. However competition from other venues proved too much. In 1910 the London Palladium was built on the site.
