This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. According to legend, the tavern was built on the site of a hovel belonging to an old woman, from which the gallows at the cross roads where Chalk Farm and Camden Roads met with the High Street. Later renamed The Black Cap, it became well known in the 1960s as a gay pub and venue for popular drag acts. It was also a favourite haunt of the serial killer Dennis Nilsen, and Anthony Hardy, the Camden Ripper. It closed in 2015.
