Description: [October, 1900] Large printed paper commemorative handkerchief, 390 x 390 mm. old creases but in an excellent state of preservation for such a fragile item. The City of London Imperial Volunteers [C.I.V.] was raised by Royal Warrant in December 1899, sponsored by the City of London, to take part in the Second Boer War. All the officers and men received the Freedom of the City of London before departure for South Africa in January and February 1900. It returned in October of the same year [celebrated here] and was disbanded in December 1900.
