Description: J.F. Tomkin, May 12th 1790. Long etched print before aquatint, 675 x 180 mm. printed in two pieces, joined, old fold. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. Rare. The only other three examples I have traced [British Museum, Getty Library and John Soane's Museum] are later impressions with the addition of aquatint to the blank arches. I assume that this is a trial print after the etching was completed and prior to the aquatint process.
