Title: Admission Ticket to the Dinner Given to William Gibb, Esquire, on Friday 24th January, 1845. Being the Day appointed for the presentation of a Service of Plate to him by His Fellow Townsmen as a Token of their gratitude for his exertions in obtaining the privilege of Bonding in Manchester.
Description: [Manchester] 1845. Large engraved card, 310 x 235 mm. browned and a little soiled with a short closed repaired tear. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. Prior to Bonding in England in 1803, importers had to pay duty directly on importation. The bonded warehouse system allowed goods to be stored until sold, thus duty was delayed.
