Title: It is His Majesty's Pleasure, that you cause the 10th Hussars at Brighton, to march by Squadrons, in four Divisions by the following Routes to the undermentioned Places, where they are to be Quartered until further orders...
Description: 9th September 1814. Manuscript, single sheet, 320 x 395 mm. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. Official troop movement orders signed by W. Merry on behalf of Palmerston, Secretary at War, for the transfer of 8 troops of the 10th Hussars from brighton, to various barracks in Romford, Hornchurch and Ilford. The 10th Hussars [the 10th (Prince of Wales's Own) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons in honour of the future King George IV] became known for elaborate and expensive uniforms and the high personal income required to be an officer. It served with honour in the Peninsular Wars in 1808-9 and again in 1813-14 advancing into France. Returning home sometime after April 1814, they were in action again at the Battle of Waterloo in June 1815. This order came during a brief period of peace between April 1814 and Napoleon's exile on Elba, and the start of the 100 Days after his return to France in March 1815.
