Title: Disembodied Militia Remittance Form. Affidavit required from lieutenants, ensigns, surgeons' mates and assistant surgeons of disembodied militia, receiving their allowance through the medium of a revenue officer.
Description: Joseph Hartnell, 1829. Blank form, 210 x 170 mm. printed in red. This item may have at some time been mounted and will bear traces on the reverse of adhesive or removal of mounts. The disembodied militia was a military force which met for training a few weeks in every year, a precursor to the modern day Territorial Army, or Army Reserves. They could be called up at a moments notice and would be expected to serve wherever sent. They were paid an allowance for which they would have to sign this receipt.
