Description: 1893. 4to album, 295 x 240 mm. containing 22 thin card sheets with mounted seaweed art. Inscribed "Frances Garratt - with Father's love Xmas 1893." Original cloth scrap album, spine crudely repaired with cloth tape. Seaweed art was popular throughout the nineteenth century and the use of this line of poetry, or variations thereof, whose true origin is unknown, was a common theme. The album starts with a series of the usual themes of bouquets and 'flower' arrangements but the pictures then become more intricate and detailed with landscapes and buildings, some seemingly telling a personal story perhaps recognised only by the presenter and recipient.
