Author: PINPRICK PICTURE Title: Man Grasping £20,000.
Description: c. 1810. Image size 210 x 150 mm. Pinprick pictures originated in the parlours of the late 18th Century as one of the many ways of amusement with paper. The fashion for cut and pricked paperwork lasted well into the Victorian Age and became more sophisticated. Pinprick pictures were occasionally enhanced with additional watercolour as here. This is one of a small collection. This particular picture may be a commercial pattern, perhaps bought with an outline to prick and colour in as we have another example of almost identical design but finished differently. I have seen further examples in the trade, also with different finishes.
