Title: The Apostle of Free Labour: the Life Story of William Collison, Founder and General Secretary of the National Free Labour Association, told by Himself.
Description: Hurst and Blackett, 1913. 1st Edition. 8vo. pp. xvi, 336> illustrations. Lacking the front end paper and with some childish scribbling to the pastedown and rear end papers. with extensive presentation inscription from the author: "To Capt Bowl with the authors compliments W. Collison. Anarchy, being disorganization means the quick return to tyranny, through the rule of the strong man who rises in his lust for power & takes command by right of might at the psychologic moment." The portrait frontispiece has been amusingly defaced by the author. William Collison [1865 - 1938]was an important figure in the now rather marginalised free labour movement, the growth and power of the trade unions steadily eroded his own influence, although in the latter part of the nineteenth century his organisation was important for the supply of unskilled labour to enterprises wishing to avoid unionisation.
