Description: c. 1947. 4to. pp. [20]. The original manuscript subscribers' book for the Churchill Toby Jug which Lord Mackintosh of Halifax commissioned from Leonard Jarvis in 1947. The jug was produced in an edition of 350 numbered copies. The manuscript consists of neatly drawn cells for the autographs of the recipients, numbered 1 - 260, the balance up to 350 not numbered. Over 50 of these cells contain actual autographs of the subscriber, including Mackintosh of Halifax [2], Electra W. Bostwick [2], H.A. Pitkin, Nicholas Layzen, Ian D. Hayward, Frank Partridge, W.W. Listor, Cdr. D. Wallace Jones, D. Bushell, Diana Beck, John K. Garvey, C. Lindo Fergusin, Una Cameron, etc. Others are neatly written in pencil by the same hand, many cells are blank. The upper cover bears the hand drawn and coloured arms of Winston Churchill. The thick paper covers are a little soiled and loosely inserted are three copies of a printed photograph [8 x 6 inches] of two views of the finished jug.
