Description: Eyre & Spottiswoode [for] HMSO,, 1906. Roy. 8vo., First Edition thus, with numerous blank interleaves numbered in pagination; blue cloth boards, gilt back, red sprinkled edges, backstrip sunned (but all gilt bright and legible), else a remarkably well-preserved, bright, clean copy. Printing code: CN 3050/05. THIS COPY WAS RECEIVED ABOARD HMS JASON ON 28 JANUARY 1907 WITH CONFIRMATORY STAMP ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER. Loosely inserted are three subsequent and relevant Circular Letters, the first also with HMS JASON stamp: a) New Procedure concerning Surveys, and Closing of Watertight Doors; b) Examination of Boilers, Closing Watertight Doors etc; c) Use of Lime in Boilers of HM Ships. HMS JASON (1892-1917) was an ALARM-class Torpedo Gunboat. Shortly after receipt of this copy she was converted to minesweeper and served with the Nore Destroyer Flotilla in WWI until April 1917 when she struck a mine off the Hebridean island of Coll and sank with the loss of thirty lives. EXTREMELY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
