Title: Cottage, Lodge, and Villa Architecture
Description: London, W Mackenzie, c. 1868 Red & black litho title, [4],32pp, descriptive texts for plates, 91 lithographic plates (plates bound in numeric order, rather than as listed in the Table of Contents; numbering omits Plates 62, 69-74, as issued, but adds Plates 4A-10A, 28A-B, 51A, and 54A - 4A and 5A together on one sheet, with 4A incorrectly labelled as 4) 46x32, half bound in brown calf, blue boards. Both boards entirely detached with first and last few pages, spine missing, boards very worn and sunned, contents generally very good apart from some light foxing, rest of binding secure. The Audsley brothers moved from Scotland to establish an architectural practice in Liverpool in 1856, and also published a series of books that also highlighted chromolitographic plates, such as the strikingly attractive title page here. The plates depict an assortment of building structures, complete with elevations and floor plans, as well as details of such specific components as columns, gables, and mantlepieces, all of course heavily influenced by the Gothic style. Rebound this could be a very handsome volume; as it is it is a complete copy of the scarce folio vesion of the first edition. [very heavy item, may need additional postage]
