The AOA was the professional body for public sector architects in the UK, working for local authorities, health authorities and the like. This annual reference contains contemporary details of materials, processes and so on. The Pay Claim is particularly interesting as it lays out in detail the devaluing of the professional compared to craft pay scales in the late 1970s, and the fears of the Association that their members were being outmuscled by the major trade unions in negotiations. By the end of the 1980s public sector architects had effectively ceased to exist, making this a glimpse at a lost era.
