Mulk Raj Anand (1905-2004) was a noted short story writer and probably the foremost Indian novelist of the thirties and forties. He also held the Tagore Chair of Comparative Literature at Punjab University, Chandigarh. Edward Morgan Forster (1879-1970) was an English short story writer, novelist and essayist who was especially known for his ironic and well plotted novels examining class differences and hypocrisy.
