Description: Oakland, CA: Joaquin Miller, 1893. Ephemera. This is a one page, autograph (handwritten) letter by Joaquin Miller - written in mostly in Spanish (and in his regularly poorly written hand that's hard to decipher in either English or Spanish). The letterhead is noticeably toned, and there is one tear to the top edge of the page at one of the two creases. (the page was folded in half twice). The text is written on the obverse only. "Cincinnatus Heine Miller (September 8, 1837 – February 17, 1913) , better known by his pen name Joaquin Miller , was an American poet, author, and frontiersman. He is nicknamed the "Poet of the Sierras" after the Sierra Nevada, about which he wrote in his Songs of the Sierras (1871). " "In 1886, Miller published The Destruction of Gotham, a book which was one of the earliest to depict a prostitute as a heroine. That year, he moved to Oakland, California, and built a home for himself he nicknamed "The Abbey" on property he called "The Hights" [sic]. He remained there until his death in 1913.
