The book is in Good only condition and was likely issued without a dust jacket. The front cover of the book has torn at the spine and is hanging on by a thread. The spine, spine joints and edges of the book covers have noticeable toning. There are two chips missing from the spine of the book. The text pages are generally clean and bright. There is a previous owner's inked name and town on the front endpaper. "Bates claims he served in the Ninth Ohio Cavalry, and after his capture was imprisoned by the Confederacy in seven different jails, including Macon, Danville, and Andersonville. After his escape from Andersonville in 1864, he was supposedly taken to the White House, where he met Lincoln. Bates was later awarded seven medals (an illustration is provided) , one for every prison in which he was kept. "Bad fiction masquerading as fact" - Nevins.". Good .
