Also Kalendarium Hortense; or the Gard'ners Almanac; Directing what he is to do Monthly throughout the Year. The second edition much Enlarged and Improved by John Evelyn. Printed by Martyn and Allestry, printers to the Royal Society, London 1670. In original leather boards with later leather spine, raised bands and gold-stamped title. Size 30.5 by 20 cm. Sylva has 247 pages plus a 25 page index; Pomona and additions 67 pp.; and the Kalendarium another 33 pp. Complete with five wood cut and copper illustrations and an engraved coat of arms on the title page, decorative lettering and charming head and tail pieces. For some reason the contents list for all three sections appears to have been originally bound in after page 247 before the index to Sylva. Binding and spine sound. Edges of boards have some rubbing and there are a few chips to the leather at the top and bottom edges; evidence of some historical damp staining to top margin of the first 23 pages and to the bottom 60 that extends about 2 to 4 cm. along the edge. Occasional age spotting or foxing but overall Good condition with these qualifications. Images available. Good.
