On folding linen size 63 by 60 cm. Hand-coloured. Scale two miles to the inch. Shows all towns and villages within a 24-mile radius of Bath plus roads canals parks country seats rivers etc. Bath and Bristol are shown in some detail. Heights are indicated by hachuring or shading. VG condition. In original VG slipcase. With original owner's name in ink to slipcase above the title and to the reverse of the map. The signature is that of Sir Thomas Graves (Admiral Thomas Graves) and is dated 1809. Graves served in the British Navy in the American War of Independence and the wars against France. He was apparently Nelson's second-in-command at the Battle of Copenhagen in 1801. Images available.
