The Pavlovsk Palace is an 18th-century Russian Imperial residence built by the order of Catherine the Great for her son, Grand Duke Paul, in Pavlovsk, within Saint Petersburg. After the Russian Revolution it was turned into a museum. In the Second World War it was occupied by the Germans but before that most of the treasures were sent away and when Pavlovsk was liberated in 1944 the Palace had been burning for days and was a shell with no roof or floors. That year it was agreed that it be rebuilt and restored to its former splendour. S. Fine/No Jacket.
