Description: London, Virgin Publishing. 2010, First Edition. (ISBN: 9780753522271). Hard Cover, 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. The Battle of Britain lasted thirteen terrifying weeks, involved 2,500 young Royal Air Force pilots pitted against the larger and more experienced German Luftwaffe, high above the English Channel. Despite being vastly outnumbered, by October 1940, the multiple daily sorties and dogfights were over - the 'Few' had succeeded and though the Luftwaffe continued to attack it was never again in large numbers. Hitler's invasion would not now take place and this was his first major defeat. More than a fifth of the British and Allied pilots died during the Battle of Britain. The book is based on the surviving pilots' interviews, sound archives and written testaments. 22. Near Fine/Very Good.
