The author, a great-grandson of early settlers in Victoria, who has travelled all over the huge continent, working as a gold miner, wharf labourer, seaman and cattle drover, grape picker on the Murray River, riding on camel patrol in Central Australia, traversing the Northern Territories and travelling into the Black Country with the flying Doctor. He covers Australia's history, geography, natural resources, agriculture and industry and provides a vivid and unforgettable picture of a vast, colourful and magnificent country.
